Using The Website

  1. The Church of St. Timothy website address is: www.sttimothywesthartford.com.
  2. You have arrived at this page by clicking on "view instructions for using the website". At any time you want additional assistance, you can contact Pat Pruitt at the Rectory during normal business hours at 860-233-5131.
  3. You might want to make some notes or print this page if you think they would be helpful. To print the page, move your cursor (mouse) up to FILE on the top menu and select PRINT.
  4. Let’s start with some terms:
CLICK – means to push down on the left side of your mouse. This is usually done when you have placed the arrow over a word or phrase that you want to know more about. If a word or phrase is able to connect you to another page, a little hand will appear when you have moved the arrow over that word or phrase.
LINK – a term used to describe a word or phrase, usually in another color, in a list, or underlined, that will connect you to another page for more information. If you move your arrow over such a word or phrase, it will change to a hand.
SCROLL – if there is more information than fits on the screen of your computer in front of you, you will see a bar on the far right side of the screen with little arrows at the top or bottom. You can get the page to scroll down several ways: you can click on the bar and hold it down and move it up and down, you can click on the little arrows to move the page up and down, or you can use the arrows on your keyboard to move the page up and down.
HOME PAGE – every website has a HOME PAGE. This is the main page, like the title page of a book. It will have basic information. We have address and contact information as well as Mass times, as these are the most frequently asked for information. There is also a list of topics either down the left side of the screen or across the top of the screen, and this list will appear on every page so that you can move around for information in any order that you choose. The first item on the list is always the HOME PAGE so you can return to the beginning any time you want.
BACK ARROW – each of you may use a different way to get into the Internet. Some may use AOL, or Internet Explorer, or Comcast, for instance. In any of these or any other access, there will be an arrow that points to the left, usually located near the top. This is called the BACK ARROW. Sometimes it will say ‘Back’ under it when you move your arrow over it. If you click on the BACK ARROW it will take you to the last page you were looking at.
FORWARD ARROW – similar to the BACK ARROW above, but this arrow will point to the right, and will only work if you have used the BACK ARROW to return to a previous page. If you have used the BACK ARROW, the FORWARD ARROW will bring you back to the page you were at before you used the BACK ARROW.
  5. Let’s start moving around the webpage.
    - Move your arrow to the column or row of navigational words.
    - Pick one of the words from the list as the topic you might want to look at. An example might be "Map & Directions" in "About Us....".
    - Place your arrow over "Map & Directions" by moving the mouse to position over it, it will change to a little hand.
    - Click on the words "Map & Directions", and it will bring you to a page with directions to St. Timothy Parish.
  6. You will notice the same navigational list is still available.
    - Pick another word, move the arrow onto it, when it changes to a little hand, click on the left side of the mouse.
    - If you are not sure what to choose, select "Events Calendar" in "Activities....".
    - This will take you to the calendar that lists all the events that have been scheduled thus far for the year.
  7. Using the navigational list of topics (think of them as book chapters), and the lists inside each one, keep clicking on things here and there as you learn to navigate the website.
